About the salon

Salon by FKZ sits on the water at New Islington marina, on the Ancoats edge of the city centre, and has spent over a decade making that setting part of the service. Founded by master stylist Fatima, it grew from a hair salon into a full hair, beauty and skin destination without losing the colour work it was known for first.

Hair is the backbone: bespoke cutting, styling, balayage, highlights, ammonia-free colour, extensions and bridal work. Beauty runs alongside — manicures and pedicures with gel and builder systems, nail art, waxing, threading, brows, lashes and professional makeup. The skin menu covers facials, chemical peels and microneedling, plus hot stone, aromatherapy and lymphatic drainage massage.

Technology and brands

Colour is built on L’Oréal Professionnel, with INOA used where an ammonia-free formula is wanted — sensitive scalps, pregnancy, or clients who colour often. In-salon treatments and aftercare run on Kérastase, while Balmain covers luxury conditioning and extensions. That combination is what lets the salon repeat lightening work like balayage without wrecking the hair.

Team and stylists

Fatima founded the salon and still works the floor as a master stylist, setting the standard the team works to. The team is deliberately multi-skilled rather than split into rival departments, with individual specialists across hair, skin, nails and hair removal.

The Space

The salon faces the marina, so daylight does much of the lighting work — a genuine advantage when colour is being matched. Styling chairs and the colour bar sit in the open room, while facials, waxing and massage move into closed treatment rooms. Long bridal and extension appointments get space away from the general traffic.
